Empower You(th)

Empower You(th) is a program created for Dr. Rodgers' Planning and Evaluating Health Education Programs (HSC4713) course. Below, you will find links to both the complete project proposal as well as the presentation slides. This project was centered around Eastside High School and focuses on aspects of physical activity, nutrition, sexual health, and mental emotional health. The goal of this project was to increase health literacy through teaching personal health to incoming freshman of the high school.

This was a group project in which I worked with Delaney Cooksey, Shixiu Wang, and Janessa Maldonado. I personally completed the following sections: Ecological/Health Determinants, Environment/Setting, Community Engagement, Resources. As found in the appendices, I also created the Flyer for Volunteers and the Budget. I wrote and presented all of the project portions related to sexual health.

This project was incredibly rewarding and many of our class ideas were used in an actual program established for Eastside High School. I worked with incredibly motivated students who helped me to demonstrate teamwork, compromise and leadership. It was also an opportunity to improve my public speaking and communication skills. It was exciting to present to an educator who has the need for our work and used aspects of our project to improve the health literacy of students at Eastside High School.

Empower You(th) Rubric

This is the graded rubric for Empower You(th), a Health Promotion Program Proposal. The rubric for both the project and presentation are found through the button below, as well as the portion of the syllabus regarding the assignment.

We received a 123/125 A on the project proposal and a 50/50 A on the presentation. Dr. Rodger's comment was 'Fabulous presentation! You were clearly prepared and out of all the groups your focus on the activities was much appreciated and exactly what I was looking for! Good job!' This positive praise was greatly appreciated, as was the idea that our work may be used to benefit the lives of young students.
