Eta Sigma Gamma
I joined Eta Sigma Gamma in Fall of 2015, at the beginning of my Junior year of college. This was the first organization I got involved in when I became a Health Education and Behavior major. I quickly became very involved and was elected as chapter secretary for the 2016-2017 school year and I was re-elected to serve for the 2017-2018 school year. I love having the opportunity to take on a leadership role within my college and have significant responsibilities within an organization; my time with Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG) provided these opportunities.Â
Some of my favorite ESG events included Mirrorless Monday, Cupid's Consent, Sex in the Swamp, and Mindful Eating.  I also engaged in numerous professional development opportunities through ESG and had the opportunity to work with fellow health education students with a strong passion for health promotion. Through my involvement with ESG, I have been able to solidify my future career goals.
Sex in the Swamp 2016
Ashtin Morio, Ida Babazadeh, Tess Affholder and I at our Sex in the Swamp 2016 booth, "Sleepless in New York". We worked hard on creating our booth and focused on information that was relevant to college aged students, such as managing your time to prioritize sleep and how to get a good night's sleep. This was my first big ESG event and I loved being apart of it coming together. Now that I am on Eboard and we are planning Sex in the Swamp 2017, I am aware of how much more behind the scenes effort is required for events like this.
Take Back the Night 2016
Here I am with Christa Dizon, Micaela Borsa, and Louise Liu at Take Back the Night 2016. I really enjoyed this event as it was a rally to end sexual violence and it was empowering to see everyone coming together for the cause. Christa led the chants and it was interesting to personally know someone so heavily involved with the event. This event was educational but it was also a huge advocacy opportunity.
Mindful Eating
Brittany Schambow, Lea Lena and I are pictured here at the Mindful Eating tabling event. This event was held in the Plaza of the Americas and it was a great opportunity to educate passerbys on being conscious of what they eat.
Relay for Life 2016
Relay for Life has always had a special place in my heart. I have attended and participated in Relay since my 7th grade year of middle school. In 7th grade, I served as a 'garbologist' meaning I helped keep the grounds clean the entire night. Since then, I have done everything from simply enjoying the event to tabling. The 2016 tabling event was Great Gatsby themed and I was there for nearly 6 hours. This was a great bonding experience in which I got close to many members and we were able to raise so much money for cancer research.
Mirrorless Monday
Mirrorless Monday is an annual event that is part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. We line the mirrors of the Florida Gym with blue paper and leave a marker for students to write positive messages, quotes and comments to promote a positive body image.
Sex in the Swamp 2017
Sex in the Swamp 2017 was held on February 23, 2017. There was a lot of behind the scenes preparation for this event that being on the executive board for ESG opened my eyes to. From setup to take down, I was at the event for 6 hours. I tabled at the Condom Design Challenge table, in which male and female condoms, some flavored, were handed out to those attending Sex in the Swamp. I then directed people to continue to the condom design challenge contestants and to the SEXpert panel.
Executive Board
Here is the 2016-2017 Executive Board for ESG. It includes Chloe Herring, Lea Lena, Amber Dellich, Tatiana Paz, Rachel Zewe, Ashtin Morio, Christa Dizon, and me, Katelyn Meeks. The faculty sponsors are Dr. Julia Varnes and Dr. Holly Moses and our project coordinator is Ms. Brittany Schambow.

World AIDs Day 2017
On December 1, 2017, ESG members sought to spread awareness and resources for HIV/AIDs. We each picked a populated location on campus and distributed envelopes containing a condom (to reduce the spread of the disease), a fact sheet about the disease, and a list of locations to get tested for free or at little cost.
Cupid's Consent
Cupid's Consent is an annual event in which various campus organizations come together to table for sexual health education, consent, and other relevant causes. It occurs each year on February 14th, Valentine's Day. We also advertised for our upcoming event, Sex in the Swamp 2018.
ESG Hours Spreadsheet
Here is the ESG hours spreadsheet I created as secretary for the 2016-2017 school year. It includes each member's ESG chapter hours, Professional Development (PD) hours, and outside hours. To the far right, there is a summary of each member's total hours in each category and the total hours accumulated.
